"I am looking for something in Bandra. As for Le Papyon being a landmark, wherever I will go now it will also become a landmark, eventually. But my little Teen Batti chawl is my biggest landmark," he says, wistfully. Well, wherever Jackie decides to reside, it will always be home to him and his family. Yes, you heard it right for the first time ever Nokia along with Big Music and A.R. Rahman gives listeners a chance to remix two tracks from this film. The winner of this contest (who will be chosen by the music legend himself) gets a chance to spend one day with him and remix two of the songs of Ada in Rahman’s studio.

Bollywood Hungama spoke to producer-director Tanvir Ahmed, who seemed pretty excited by this unique concept, "Big Music has the music rights of my film Ada-a way of life. Rahman has composed some wonderful tunes and through Nokia’s newly launched Xpress Music mixer application, listeners have a chance to remix two of Rahman’s songs from the soundtrack of the film. It’s a very unique and innovative concept"

We also decided to get some more details on the film and its cast, "Ada- a way of life is a film which has many different layers. It’s a love story with a social, spiritual, family and crime angle to it. The cast comprises of debutant actor Ayaan Ahmed and Nauheed Cyrusi who play the romantic lead. Apart from them we have Rahul Roy and Ayesha Jhulka who play the role of the parents and there is also Saurabh Dubey who plays the antagonist," said Tanvir

We also quizzed the director on the status of the film. "Well the film is complete, the post-production is currently going on now. As for the music, we had a formal launch at the Nokia event yesterday but the music should be in stores by May 6. The film would release after two months." Said the director

For those who came in late, we at Bollywood Hungama had earlier reported of director Tanvir Ahmed’s plans of making a film titled Ada which was to star Big B and Dilip Kumar in the year 2001. So we decided to get the facts straight from the director if this is the same project or a different one considering the title is one and the same, "Yes I had decided to make a film called Ada long time back We had decided to make it on a grand scale with some big names and Rahman had composed the music for us after Lagaan. Mr. Jhamu Sugandh was supposed to produce the film but things didn’t work out and the project didn’t take off due to certain reasons. Now my film Ada- a way of life only has the same title but it is a completely fresh and different story which is more relevant in today’s times. However since Rahman had made 10 tracks for us which were nice romantic numbers I decided to retain them in this film."

Incidentally, debutant Ayaan Ahmed happens to be director Tanvir Ahmed’s son, so is this, like a launch for him, "Nothing of that sort. It’s just that I was finding a new hero for this fresh love story and he suited the character aptly. He has been able to carry off the role well and I am happy," signs off Tanvir Ahmed.

When a reporter asked Chan if he was looking forward to meeting Amitabh Bachchan, he snapped back saying, “I don’t know who Bachchan is.” Later in the day, Chan, along with Sherawat and a few other stars, watched a few scenes from Kamal Haasan’s Dasavatharam. Meanwhile, Sherawat, who has allegedly charged a bomb from producer Oscar Ravichandran to be there, was said to be the only point of contact to get in touch with Chan.

Even Ravichandran had to place all his requests for Chan through her. One of the first things that she did after landing in Chennai was to head to the stadium to check the security arrangements there. Sherawat acted every bit the diva she thinks she is with those who had thronged the hotel premises in search of a byte. Towards evening Chan left for the Nehru Indoor Stadium along with Big B, Mallika, Mammooty and about 30 bouncers and four bodyguards. There, unexpectedly, a change came over him. And the Kung-Fu king went on to become the showstopper of the evening.

“I would like to work with Kamal, Amitabh Bachchan and Mallika Sherawat. I can sing, I can fight and I am an actor. And when you people find time, call me here, and we will do a movie. I will do the love scenes with Mallika and you guys do the action,” said the Rush Hour actor to resounding applause from the fanatic crowd. As the evening progressed and the crowd cheered more, Chan played to the gallery by trying to get Tamil names right, but failing miserably before giving it up. He was the highlight of the evening, it was Mallika who made a point - if you don’t get it, grab it unabashedly!

Amrita feels she is losing weight the right way. "I’m alternating thrice a week between yoga and gym an have started following a regular diet. It’s always nice to be fit and have a nice healthy lifestyle. People tell me I have lost so much weight but I was always 48 kilos that’s what I weigh today. Last year, I had put on weight but now I’m back to my original size."

Some people would say she looks anorexic. Amrita begs to differ. "Hardly so. I’m eating more meals than I used to. Now I’m on mini meals. I love my food way too much to stop eating it. I also work out at Zarine Watson’s gym."

Kareena lost a lot of weight last year and today sports a wafer-thin look. Is this the Kareena influence? Says Amrita, "Yes. Friends have positive influences on each other. Bebo got me into yoga and today Priya from Bharat Thakur’s school of yoga teaches me for an hour everyday. I feel calmer and lighter. Yoga makes you feel fit. Bebo lost weight the right way over two-and-a-half years. She advocates healthy eating."

The two also share the same dietician Rujuta Diwekar. Amrita says, "Earlier, I’d eat a heavy lunch or snack and break down my meals. Today, I have Rujuta who plans my diet chart, which just got healthier."

I have just returned from the most amazing and wonderful trip to Chennai, India, where I went to attend the audio launch of Oscar Films’ upcoming movie Dasavatharam. I should tell you that Oscar Films is responsible for distributing my films in India and has been doing this for over twenty years, since Battle Creek Brawl. It’s because of them that I’m so well known in India and they are very old friends of mine.

A few months ago, Mr. Ramesh Babu from Oscar Films and Mr. Vikram Lamba, brother of my Myth screen companion Mallika Sherawat, came to Hong Kong to personally invite me to this function. At the time, I looked at my schedule and winced. I was booked almost every day in April in Beijing, doing public service announcements and other events for the Olympics. How in the world would I fit in a trip to India? But I was so touched by their sincerity, and missed India so much (it’s been three years since The Myth) that I shifted things around so that I could squeeze in a very short trip.

As I told you, the purpose of the Chennai trip was to attend the music launch of Oscar Films’ latest production, Dasavatharam. In Indian films, the music is a very important part of the production, and these events are quite extravagant. The organizers had also added a fund-raising element to it, and I was there to present a check to the charity organizers.

Oscar Films was extremely generous in providing me with everything I could possibly need on this trip. Since I was only going to be in Chennai for about twenty-four hours, I didn’t think that anyone would know of my arrival and I was completely overwhelmed when I arrived at Chennai airport. So many fans and friends came to greet me, and it was at that moment I knew this would be the beginning of an amazing trip.

The premiere event was incredible. I saw so many friendly people, and so many famous faces! Many stars of Indian cinema were there and I recognized their faces, but I didn’t know how to pronounce their names (you know I’m much better with faces than with names). I was surprised and happy that so many people seemed to know me and wanted to talk to me. Oscar Films obviously did a great job promoting and distributing my previous films! I was really overwhelmed and I did my best to talk to as many people as possible. I hope I didn’t offend anyone by not giving them enough attention.

The movie, Dasavatharam, is truly a sight to behold. The story, directing, acting, camera work, special effects, everything about it is amazing. It really opened my eyes to modern Indian cinema. Of course I had seen Indian films before; I admire many of the actors, and really like the music and dancing. But this movie is really something else. Every element was amazing to me; and all the elements together just made a perfect and incredible movie! I won’t spoil anyone’s surprise by revealing the story now, since I think everyone should watch this movie. But I will say two things: watch for the environmental message, and all you directors in Hong Kong and China, watch this movie and start working harder than ever, because very soon now, Indian cinema will overtake us in the eyes of the international audience!

Because of my busy schedule, I had to leave Chennai the same night, after the event ended. I arrived in Beijing early the next morning and imagine my surprise when I was greeted with, “We heard it didn’t go too well; are you okay?” I honestly had no idea what everyone was talking about. I’d had such a thrilling and interesting trip and everything had gone quite smoothly.

When I saw some of the news reports on the Internet, I was extremely upset. One article accused me of ridiculous things like refusing to drink India’s bottled water - they said I brought my own imported mineral water - and of traveling with my own personal chefs because I refuse to eat Indian food. There were also reports of my so-called offensive behavior, dismissing the Indian stars and not talking to anyone. What complete nonsense! I have nothing but respect for Indian culture and Indian cinema, and even though I may not know all the stars by name or how to properly pronounce the names of the ones I do know, this has nothing to do with my admiration for them. And saying that I won’t eat Indian food! Nothing could be further from the truth; I adore Indian food, and in fact had two excellent meals on this trip and was so full I could barely leave my seat! To the reporters who wrote those offensive articles, I say this: You say I brought my own water. What brand did I bring? You can find out from the housekeepers at the hotel whether I did such a thing. You say I refused to eat Indian food. Do your research and talk to the three butlers the hotel assigned to my room and ask them what I ate! You say I holed up in my air-conditioned hotel room, ignoring my hosts. Why would I travel all the way to India and refuse to leave my hotel room?

I’ve been in the public eye for many years and I have put up with a lot of ridiculous things written about me. I very seldom lash out at anyone. But truly, these irresponsible “reporters” spoiled the memory of my trip, and I am so afraid that when my gracious and wonderful hosts read the lies, they may get the complete wrong impression of me and my feelings about them and about the event. Therefore, I am posting this message on my website immediately to set the record straight.

While I am on the topic of irresponsible journalism, some reporters recently asked me about my participation in the Olympic torch relay. I jokingly answered that no one had better try to come near me while I’m carrying the torch. I said it as a joke, and believe me, I made it quite clear that I was fooling around. I have tremendous faith in the security measures being taken. The next day there were news reports all over the world saying things like “Jackie Chan Threatens Olympic Protestors” and “Kung Fu Star Will Chop Down Protestors.” It seems that everywhere in the world there will be rotten apples that spoil the good ones in the barrel.

I hope this has cleared things up and that my gracious and generous Indian hosts and all of my fans and friends will be reassured that I had a lovely and memorable trip.

Bachchan opens out his heart about the trauma of being caught in the controversy related to Marathi vs Non Marathi that swept Maharashtra very recently. "Discriminations of any kind is not acceptable to me...I am ready to bear any physical pain but discrimination is unbearable," he writes in a post written today.

He further says,"....To face obstacles and injury, to face discrimination from those that find me undesirable in their region, that badger me with complaints and controversy..." Shatrughan Sinha invited rather a strong comment from Bachchan, who is the brand ambassador of IIFA, for suggesting that nominations for the IIFA awards were not credible.

"I am surprised at this observation, especially since, during one of the past National Award selection for Best Actress when the Award went to Raveena Tandon, it was alleged that Mr Shatrughan Sinhas wife... Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi described Kamal as ’’a world class actor’’(’ulaga maga nayakan) and observed that Jackie Chan and Kamal had a lot of similarities in their personal character besides sharing the same date and year of birth.

Kamal’s feat of playing ten roles in ’Dasaavatharam’, emulates the eight played by late English and Hollywood celebrity Alec Guinnes in ’Kind Hearts and Coronets’’ in 1949 and none by Tamil cinema’s thespian late Sivaji Ganesan in his 100th film, ’’Navaratri’’ a 1964 release. In one of his roles in the film Kamal appears as US President George Bush.

Sony & BMC Music Entertainment company hold the audio CD and cassettes rights for the film.

Neha confirmed that her voice was not used. "Yes, it’s true that I have not dubbed for it," she admitted. "But why I have not been dubbed for it only the director and producer can answer." Producer Sanjay Gupta on his part explained that Neha’s voice was not suitable for the character. "We wanted a mature voice and Neha’s voice wasn’t suitable for it, so a dubbing artiste dubbed for her." That sounds fair enough. And Neha Oberoi has been cool about it. But Sanjay Gupta’s valid reason for dubbing Neha’s voice is laced with the fact that he was settling a score, too.

Reports from the inside circle admitted that Gupta was miffed with Dharam Oberoi, Neha’s father, who is now close to his former business partner, Sanjay Dutt. The two Sanjays were together in production and had forged a thick bond on the personal front too. Till Maanyata, it is reported, eased Gupta out of Dutt’s circuit and the two Sanjays split, though they did not admitm it to the media or their fans.

"Neha is Dharam Oberoi’s daughter and Dharam has shifted his loyalties to Sanjay Dutt after his split with Sanjay Gupta. The producer Gupta hasn’t taken that lightly but settled his score with his Woodstock Villa debutante heroine. So, as it happens all the time, he didn’t bother to ask her to dub for her role, and got the dubbing done by a dubbing artiste instead," said the insider. For the moment, Neha Oberoi who is caught in the feud, is taking it sportingly and in a matter-of-fact way. That should stand her in good stead in the landmine-strewn path to Bollywood.

The ministry said that only state governments could ensure the smooth screening of films. But IMPPA president T.P. Aggrawal Wednesday sent a rejoinder to I&B Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi. He asked whether the central government should turn a blind eye if a film certified by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) could be challenged and cases could be filed against it.

IMPPA made that demand in view of a spate of court cases filed against some releases by some organisations or groups of people in different parts of the country.

These cases usually require the persons associated with these movies to be present in local courts at the cost of their work schedule. Such movies include "Rang De Basanti" and "Dhoom 2". Aggarwal said that the government must ensure that the cases, if any, against a movie should be filed in the place where it is certified in order to preserve the sanctity of the CBFC certificate.

"When a movie is certified by a central government body, it is incumbent upon the government to protect the person who has made it and obtained the certificate for release after paying a large amount of money for it," filmmaker Yash Chopra said at the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) media convention in Mumbai recently.

When asked about his son Sikander’s debut film "Woodstock Villa", he said: "I am happy and I wish him luck for his film. After all, it is his life and I leave everything to him." In 2007, Anupam joined hands with actor-director Satish Kaushik to launch a film production company - Karol Bagh Film and Entertainment Pvt Ltd.

They have two movies in the pipeline - "Tere Sang" directed by Kaushik himself and "Hawai Dada", for which Ajay Karthik is wielding the megaphone. Anupam’s forthcoming releases include Karan Razdan-directed "Mr. Bhatti on Chutti" and Rumi Jaffrey’s "God Tussi Great Ho" directed.

Hansal Mehta’s "Woodstock Villa" is an action-thriller and the launch pad of Kirron Kher’s son Sikander Kher.

In the film, Neha plays the role of an aspiring model, Reshma, who can go to any extent to reach her goal fast.

She said: "Working with Hansal and Sikander was a wonderful experience. Sikander is very professional and full of energy all the time, which keeps your spirits high as well.

"And Hansal has loads of patience. Both of us were newcomers, but he never lost his cool, which is very important. Hats off to him," said Neha, who last appeared in "Dus Kahaniyaan".

While Neha is relatively new in Bollywood, she had featured in the Telugu film "Balu" and even won the Filmfare award for her performance.

He feels that the Indian audience has always been ready to accept meaningful cinema, but filmmakers have been lacking the will to do it thinking that such films will not do well at the box office.

"I went to see ’Taare Zameen Par’ and ’Khuda Kay Liye’ and I was really happy to see that the hall was full. This clearly shows that the audience is appreciating quality cinema," he said.

On being asked about his plans to resuscitate the film body as well as the industry, he said: "It is too early to plan for my entire tenure as I have just joined. But later the board would decide the policies together. I am just a figurehead."

As the new chairman of NFDC, Om plans to introduce a concept called "Cooperatives". In this model if the script or the film demands established and famous actors, NFDC will approach them with an offer to work in the film for a subsidised fee.

If the film is a success, the profit garnered will be shared between all the people associated with the project on their actual cost basis.

"The idea behind this concept is to give a boost to filmmakers with experiential and viable scripts but limited budgets. This proposal will help procuring prominent talents for small budget films," he said.

At the moment, he is upbeat about his forthcoming films, which include "Singh is King", "Mere Baap Pehle Aap", "Dilli 6", "Kushti", "Mukhbir" and also an international film titled "Shoot On Site".

"All these films are almost ready for release and the good part is that I am playing different roles in each of them," he said.

I am surprised at this observation, especially since, during the time of the National Award selection for Best Actress in one of the past years, when the Award went to Raveena Tandon, it was alleged that Shatrughan Sinha’s wife, the lovely and graceful Poonam, a great friend of Raveena’s mother had recommended the appointment of MacMohan, the brother of Raveena’s mother, on the board of the Jury (structured by the government in power - in this case the BJP, of which Sinha was a minister) in order that he may cast his vote in favour of Raveena Tandon.

If this alleged story is true then I do value Shatrughan Sinha’s alleged statement of Sab kissika beta, kissiki beti, kissiki biwi - you are so right Shatru!!"

On his part, Shatrughan Sinha says he wasn’t targeting Amitabh. "I did not name Amitabh Bachchan or his family. I did not even mention IIFA award," said Shatrughan Sinha, actor and BJP leader. However, Big B seems to have been cut to the quick. He even took a sarcastic swipe at Shatrughan Sinha’s son entering the film world.

In Dil Chahta Hai we were buddies. In Race we’re brothers but battling constantly. But I had never worked with all the three girls-Bipasha, Katrina and Sameera. They’re all so wonderful. They’re looking smashing. Anaita Adjania has really dressed us up well."

Akshaye’s next release would be a Priyadarshan comedy Mere Baap Pehle Aap. "I’m in it with Paresh Rawal. It’s one of those films that will put a smile on everyone’s face.

And my co-star Genelia D’Souza is the absolutely correct choice."

On Bachchan’s remarks that IIFA awards are given on the basis of voting and computerisation, Sinha said he is elder to him in the film industry and knows the truth. "Why a popular film like Amir Khan’s ’Taare Zamin Par’ which has been appreciated by the audience did not get a nomination?" he asked.

Sinha said "this significant omission is due to extraneous factors to benefit certain people and families."

"He is saying the awards are based on computerisation, etc. I am in this industry for almost 35 years, I need not be told how the awards are given out," he added.

Describing Amitabh Bachchan as his good friend, Shatrughan Sinha on Wednesday said he was taken aback by superstar’s outbursts against him over IIFA award nominations.

Bachchan’s comments on him were "unnecessary and bad in taste", the shotgun told news agencies.

Describing the mega star as his good friend with whom he did many successful movies, Sinha said he failed to understand the reason for his being overtaken by anger. "I had just said the award has turned out to be a function of a Bollywood family and did not name anybody... there are families of Khans, Raj Kapoor and Rakesh Roshan in the films...so on what basis Amitabh assumed I was referring to his family," he said.

Sinha said the IIFA itself did not react to his comments and asked "is Bachchan senior trying to be more loyal than the king to please IIFA (of which he is brand ambassador)?"

On Big B’s allegation that he had a role in actress Raveena Tandon getting the national award when he was a minister in the Vajpayee government, Sinha said "assuming it is true, everybody knows that there was a hand of the then Mulayam Singh Yadav government in all the awards given to Bachchan’s family in Uttar Pradesh."

Stepping right into the controversy over the IIFA awards, Amitabh Bachchan on Wednesday hit out at co-star Shatrughan Sinha in his blog.

“A section of the print media carried comment from my colleague and friend and neighbour, Shatrughan Sinha. It reportedly quoted his reactions to the nomination list of the IIFA awards, wherein he has purportedly stated that sab kissika beta hai, ya kissiki bahu, ya kissiki biwi ’, and the media adding there interpretation to it, stating that this was directed to a particular family of ’guru’ fame," he states in his blog.

The Mani Ratnam directed Guru , starring Amitabh’s son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai, has been nominated in all the main categories of the IIFA awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Performance in a leading role.

"I believe what is being insinuated is that there is partiality or some ’fixing’ in the choice of the nominations carried by IIFA. And as the report concluded, the indication was towards one family, not difficult to guess which one," Amitabh writes.

The actor, who is readying for the release of his next film Bhootnath , said he is surprised by Shatrughan Sinha’s allegation and harks back to the past to make a point.

"I am surprised at this observation, especially since, during the time of the National Award selection for best actress in one of the past years, when the award went to Raveena Tandon, it was alleged that Shatrughan Sinha’s wife, the lovely and graceful Poonam, a great friend of Raveena’s mother had recommended the appointment of MacMohan, the brother of Raveena’s mother, on the board of the jury (structured by the government, in power - in this case the BJP, of which Mr. Sinha was a Minister of State) in order that he may cast his vote in favour of Raveena Tandon."

"If this alleged story is true then I do value Mr. Sinha’s alleged statement of sab kissika beta, kissiki beti, kissiki biwi - you are so right Shatru," he wrote.

"Of course, this does not take anything away from Raveena’s very deserving award - she has been a wonderful and talented co-artist in many films of mine, or, MacMohan, the Sambha of Sholay , who has remained a dear friend and has worked with me in several films. As has Mr. Sinha."

Commenting on the IIFA nominations, Amitabh said the names were finalised through computerised voting system.

"And may I also state that IIFA nominations come from the film fraternity through computerised voting systems, audited and compiled by PriceWaterhouse Coopers, an international company of repute and standing."

"And Shatru! I have seen some very encouraging reports of the film, where your son is being introduced to this great industry. May he prosper and succeed even more than his illustrious father and may he never have to face a slighted accusation of ’fixing’, when his name comes up for an award in future."

The shotgun expressed serious doubts over transparency and objectivity with regard to all the awards.

"Some of the undeserving films like ’Eklavya’ and ‘Jeans’ were nominated for Oscar recently in place of deserving ones. As a result, ’Eklavya’ did not get the Oscar nomination," he said.

Sinha said Hollywood awards still hold credibility and this is the reason those winning or even losing these are respected. He said people with impeccable credibility should be made jury members for fair selection of award winners.

The IIFA awards will be held this year in Bangkok from June 6-8.

However, Deepa Sahi also added that no part of the scene had been censored before the release.
She said, “The Censor Board had objected to the scene but then the Revised Committee reviewed it again and we got it to the theatres without any cuts.”

But when we told her that we had seen the film when it released and the video on the Internet was far more explicit, Deepa said, “I don’t know. I am not going to go on the Internet to checkout.”

Ketan Mehta agreed with Deepa’s point and said that it’s not possible that the Internet scene has more to it than the film. According to him, there were no censor cuts and no scenes were added later.

So, how did the sex scene come out after 15 years? According to Deepa, she is not aware how the sex scene in question went into circulation. However, she also said that she was not surprised that this had happened. Deepa added, “If the scene is there in the film, it is likely that such a thing will come on the Internet. I don’t know why there is so much brouhaha about this. I think India was far more liberal in thinking 50 years ago. We seem to have become more regressive over the years. I remember the Revised Committee saying that the scene was very poetic.”

We wondered if Shah Rukh Khan was upset over the leaked scene on the Internet. So, we asked Deepa if SRK has called her. Deepa said, “No. Shah Rukh Khan hasn’t called me.”

Despite us sending a text message to Shah Rukh Khan, he remained unavailable for comment. Currently, Ketan Mehta is busy with the post production work of his upcoming film Rang Rasiya starring Nandana Sen and Randeep Hooda. Rang Rasiya, which also has an English version titled Colours of Passion, is expected to hit the theatres in June.

Thankfully, the film’s production team was equipped to handle the crowds. The producer had hired no less than 100 security guards from a local agency only to provide adequate security to Ms. Sherawat. The shooting that had to be done on a street was at last completed without any untoward incident.

Mallika is known to be very particular about her security in public places. Earlier, while shooting her film Ugly Aur Pagli at Mumbai’s Essel World, Mallika refused to shoot when a huge crowd gathered and there weren’t enough security men around.

He objected to the distortion of history in the movie, which the producers were promoting as a "period film". Tucy said he wanted the film’s screening to be stopped as it was misleading people and creating a wrong image of the Mughal dynasty. Noted Mughal historian R. Nath said "Jodhaa Akbar" is an example of perverted history for entertainment.

"The film by Gowariker is no match to K. Asif’s ’Mughal-e-Azam’. No doubt Asif added characters and events to romanticise the film, but hardly ever did he try to transgress the limits of history or outrage its sensitivity or authenticity. That was how Anarkali was permanently imprinted on the collective psyche of people."

Nath said "Jodhaa Akbar" is a poor imitation of "Mughal-e-Azam" and without any historical basis whatsoever. "In history, there was only one Jodha Bai, daughter of Mota Raja Uday Singh Rathor of Jodhpur, and was married to Salim (Jahangir, 1628-58).

"She was called Jodha Bai because she belonged to Jodhpur. Jahangir bestowed upon her the title of Jagat Gosain, as he styled himself as Jagat Guru. Jahangir’s queen Jodha died in 1619 and her son Shah Jahan built for her a magnificent tomb at Agra."

Akbar had four wives and with none did he have any romance as "all these were political marriages". Nath said Gowariker had done "injustice" to Mughal emperor Akbar whose dignity, majestic looks and grandeur had been "caricatured" in the form of Hritik Roshan.

Even the inscription outside the so-called Jodha Bai palace in Fatehpur Sikri clearly mentions that Jodha Bai has been mistakenly called Akbar’s wife, said Tucy. With such material proof how can filmmakers claim they had researched and presented true Mughal history, he asked.

Shabana Azmi: For "Morning Raga" I had to master Carnatic music. It was a terrifying and frustrating learning process. But it felt very exhilarating when I got it right. Thank god for my guru Ranjini and her patience and dedication.

Shilpa Shetty: For Indra Kumar’s "Rishtey" I had to learn to speak Hindi with a Marathi accent. That was more difficult than anything I had to face in "Big Brother".

At the time, she had had an accident and her hand was in a cast. I was overcome by sympathy for her. Soon, when we got off, I told her if she ever needed help, I’d do my best.

Later, I learnt that she was an actress, and in the television serial, Hum Paanch. The next time I met her in the train, I told her she was a great actress for having pulled the wool over my eyes so effectively! We had a good laugh.

Vidya would be dressed in very stylish salwar kameezes, as opposed to her tank top clad friends. She also had plenty of cool bindis. I think she was trying to rock the Shanti (Mandira Bedi’s popular telly soap) look. She was active in the college festival, Malhar, and took part in college plays. I always think she is more beautiful in person that when I saw her in Lage Raho Munnabhai.

The last time we met was in a dubbing studio in Bandra, a Mumbai suburb, where I was recording an ad jingle for a client. We chatted and she said she was dubbing for a film in which she was starring. I asked her the name and she said Parineeta. I asked her if it was about a fairy called Neeta. Her look was something to see! :)

Soon, I left for further studies in the US. One day, I read on newspaper that a funnily-named movie was a big success back home. The movie starred Saif Ali Khan, Sanjay Dutt and a newcomer called Vidya. Vidya Balan - the girl who had pranked me on a local train - had become a star. I remembered the incident and smiled. She was designed to be a fine actress.

Koena got herself permanently inked three weeks ago by tattoo artist Elton F Dias at her residence. Her earlier tattoo of a belly chain was also done by him. “Elton is my physical trainer’s brother and I prefer the comfort of my own home to be inked.”

The tattoo has been done in such a way that it is visible only when she keeps her fingers apart. “If I keep my palm open, you can’t see it, nor can one see it from the upper part of my hand.”

The reason

This is because the actress believes that tattoos should not be obstructive and in-your-face. “It’s primarily for you and others should see it when you want them to see it!"

Each tattoo has a story to tell, Koena’s has one too. “I thought of it as a cute idea. Right now, I am single.

In the future when I marry, I’ll be wearing a ring from the love of my life in the same place,” says Koena who is preparing for her role as a superwoman in Pritish Nandy Communication’s Karna.

Shaikh, who made his last appearance in the movie ’Mohabbat’ in 1997, on his comeback in the films, says, "this year I am confident of being caught by any director or producer".

He pioneered the idea of cinestars getting back to the small screen with ’Jeena Isi ka Naam hai’ on Zee and now the entire fraternity seems to be following in his footsteps. When asked about it, the actor quips, "more than achievement it was just a matter of time." On the importance of making socially relevant movies and serials, he points out, "such attempts do have an impact. Although it does not solve a major problem but it raises certain points, at least to let people ponder over the matter".

However, the star of 1970s and 1980s feels that coming up of the ’middle of the road’ movies, which provide entertainment besides educating people on certain issues, like ’Rang De Basanti’, ’Tare Zameen Par’, are setting a good trend.

"Such movies which have been commercially viable also, are setting good trends and will continue. One should have faith in this trend," he says adding, the coming of the multiplex culture is a good sign as it help to release movies of any budget.

Terming ’reality shows’ as a new phase, Shaikh who has also acted in many comedy soaps points out, "there are things which have certain phases and now it is the turn of the reality shows."

He adds, "If a reality show helps even ten per cent of the common people, then it is good. At least it provides a platform to the masses to showcase their talents." Shaikh has worked in many critically acclaimed movies such as ’Shatranj Ke Khiladi’, ’Noorie’, ’Chashme Buddoor’ and ’Kissi Se Na Kehna’.

He has also worked with the legendary director Satyajit Ray, who is known as the father of the ’parallel cinema’. Apart from Ray, Shaikh also worked with Muzaffar Ali, Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Ketan Mehta.

By refusing to act in Twenty:20 (as her dates clashed with her Telugu movie’s dates), Meera Jasmine ruffled quite a feathers. The result is that she has been banned from acting in any Malayalam movies until AMMA lifts the ban.

It remains to be seen how Meera’s fortunes will fare as she doesn’t usually do many Malayalam movies and her star is waning in Kollywood too.

Salman is an accused, along with co-actors Saif Ali, Tabbu, Neelam and Sonali Bendre, in a case of poaching of two black bucks in Kankani village under the Luni police station on October 1, 1998.

A case under the Arms Act is also pending before the court against Salman.

Besides this, two appeals filed by the state government in two more cases of poaching against Salman were also pending before the Rajasthan High Court. Eesha had been shooting round the clock for Sooraj Barjatya’s Ek Vivaah Aisa Bhi and Neeraj Pathak’s Right Ya Wrong . Since both films are being made at Film City, to save time travelling, Eesha was put up in a suburban hotel. Monday night, the strain of balancing both films and working non-stop took its toll on the pretty actress. But yet, after spending a restless night, she reported for shooting by 8 next morning looking like a zombie. That’s when she collapsed after giving a couple of shots.

Eesha said, “I was taken to my dad’s maternity hospital where I was put on glucose.” The news spread, Bollywood’s rumour mills began to grind wickedly, and Eesha started getting a number of calls from friends. “They have been ribbing me about fainting and being taken to a maternity hospital of all places. "Definitely, I do want to direct films. But right now the priorities are different. May be in a year or two I will start direction too," Manisha told IANS.

"But believe me, being an actor is the most blessed position because they are the most pampered lot," said the 30 plus actress who comes from a politically prominent family in Nepal. Her granduncle G.P. Koirala is the current prime minister there.

She debuted in Bollywood with Subhash Ghai’s super hit "Saudagar" and went on to star in films like "1942: A Love Story", "Bombay", "Gupt", "Dil Se" and "Kachche Dhaage".

After Kamal Haasan’s "Mumbai Express" in 2006, "Sirf" is the first film in which she will be playing the main lead. She made sporadic appearances in duds like "Darwaza Bandh Rakho" and "Anwar". She also went off to the US for a film course.

Manisha is paired opposite Kay Kay Menon in "Sirf", a film about four couples that has been directed by Raajatesh Nayar, erstwhile assistant of Raj Kumar Santoshi.

"I am playing the character of Devika who is married to Kay Kay. I own an ad agency. My character is very lonely because her husband is too busy with his work. But she is strong too and holds her own even when the odds are totally against her," Manisha said.

Manisha says she doesn’t identify with her character in the film except that she too is a strong person in real life.

"Yes, I am a strong woman, but Devika is not me completely. In some places I do connect with the character and that’s all. The film is about vacuum in people’s life, how they think everybody else has more than them. I have never had that kind of misconception."

The film also strars Sonali Kulkarni-Ranvir Shorey, Parveen Dabbas-Rituparna Sengupta and Ankur Khanna-Nauheed Cyrusi as couples.

"I have worked with Kay Kay, Parveen and Ranbir. While Kay Kay is an extremely strong but subtle artiste, Parveen is extremely expressive and casual about it. Ranvir is good. They all had their own style and each is very good but Kay Kay is brilliant. He can enact the most intense scene without any histrionics."

About the director, she said: "I have worked with Raajatesh during ’Lajja’. So technically I do know him. He is a very good and clear-cut director. He has a very clear vision of what he wants. Although he had trained under Santoshi, his style of filmmaking is very different."

"I think ’Sirf’ is closer to ’Life in a... Metro’ than any of the films made by Santoshi. Because of his training and exposure, Raajatesh has shown a lot of maturity in handling the subject," she added.

All the four couples belong to different levels of society and each has its own problems to deal with, but somewhere they all come across each other. En route the film has humour and also pathos at times. The film is scheduled for an April 25 release.

Talking about her forthcoming projects, she said: "I am in talks with many makers for various international projects. I will choose with care. Then ’Chehra’ is on the floors. In this film I play the role of a complete diva."

The latest story doing the rounds is of Mallika’s starry tantrums which had Studio 18 in a fix. According to sources, Studio 18 had signed Madame Sherawat to play the female lead in a film tentatively titled Masquerade for a remuneration of Rs.95 lakh. The actress was even paid 25% of her fee as the signing amount for this film which was to be directed by Kundan Shah.

Sources say that Mallika’s nakhras started even before shooting could begin and that she was not happy with the choice of the director and the cinematographer. The cinematographer of Mallika’s choice asked for a fee which was way over the budgeted amount. When director Kundan Shah decided that he had enough, Mallika coolly went to the press and declared the she had walked out of the film.

Studio 18 had no option but to shelve the project. However, it has gone ahead and lodged a complaint with IMPPA and has even asked Mallika to return the signing amount paid to her.

We tried to get in touch with Mallika for her stance on this issue but the actress did not wish to comment.
