The grapevine is abuzz with the news Mugdha was approached to act in the film Raas Leela to be directed by Sharat Chandra. The film is said to have French actress Emmanuelle Beart in leading role. However, Mugdha refused the offer, as she is not ready to go topless.

"Kuselan should not be allowed to release in Karnataka until Rajinikanth offers an unconditional apology to Kannadigas. He has hurt the feelings of a large section of Kannadigas by calling pro Kannada activists as trouble makers and urging people to kick them out," said Vatal Nagaraj.

The faction of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike headed by Shivaramegowda has spearheaded a campaign to prevent the release of Kuselan. The members of the Vedike have sat in a dharna in front of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce to present a memorandum to the President of the KFCC to stall the release of of the film. The film’s distribution rights have been obtained by a member of the KFCC and it is understood that efforts are being made for a simultaneous release of the film.

It looks as if the sequences that occurred before the release of Shivaji may well be repeated even now. But Kannada groups are determined that Rajinikanth’s new film should not be released until he offers an apology.

‘I have quit smoking and drinking for the last one-and-a-half years and plan to continue with it in the future too. I did not have the habit of eating non-vegetarian food much, but I have stopped it completely now.’ Jackie said.

Intitially Jackie was apprehensive about the role but Deepak was adamant about casting him. ‘Initially, when he had approached me with the project, I did not agree as I thought playing Sai Baba would not be possible for me. But the constant persuasion from the director made me say yes and then I never looked back,’ ponders Jackie.

Jackie, who is also an ardent follower of the spiritual guru, said: ‘Now I feel as if Baba is guiding me in the film and I am only following his instructions.’

The new kid in the block is Varalakshmi, Sarath Kumar’s daughter from his first marriage to Chaya. Sarath Kumar is also has a political party of his own and is also the President of South India Film Artistes Association.

Varalakshmi will enter the Tamil film world in a romantic comedy titled Poda Podi opposite Silambarasan. The film will be shot in Toronto.

Unlike many other star kids, Varalakshmi was more into studies till now. After completing her studies (Microbiology) in India, she did her masters in Business Management from the University of Edinburgh.

It so happened that the team of Ugly Aur Pagli was shooting late in the night. However, the clapper-boy had to leave for the day. So to not let the shooting schedule get interrupted, Mallika came up with the idea of doing her own clap. And if you are thinking she was kidding or playing a prank, you are wrong. Madame Sherawat was dead serious about what she had just said.

It was a long and drooling schedule but for the entire shoot that night, Mallika gave her own clap for all the scenes.Everyone on the sets was amazed to see how promptly she used to give the clap and start with her shot simultaneously. It was a bit difficult but Mallika did it with out any hitches and managed it quite well.

The duo were seen at the premiere, but they were hardly talking to each other,’ added the source.

Shahid and Vidya’s pair was much appreciated by the whole team of the film.Even director Aziz Mirza had commented about their pairing.He said: ’I think Shahid and Vidya make a perfect pair. They reciprocate to each other very well and I think they will form one of the best pairs of Bollywood in the future.’

If industry sources are to be believed, it is Shahid who has changed his attitude towards Vidya because he has found a new friend in tennis star Sania Mirza.

Both Kuselan and Shah Rukh Khan produced and starring Billoo Barber directed by Priyadarshan are remakes of Malayalam hit film, Katha Parayumbol which had Mammootty in the lead. The story lines of both are exactly the same to that of the original. Both the Hindi and Tamil remakes feature a song where in the lead stars (Ranji and SRK) appear in 20 various looks. If Kuselan releases in Hindi first, there will be no novelty left for Billoo Barber at all amongst the audiences.

A source tells us, "While SRK was confident that he would be able to wrap up his film before Rajnikant’s Tamil version he was in for a not so pleasant surprise when he came to know that the Rajni film is not only over but is due for a release in August and that too with its Hindi dubbed version. SRK had already planned a grand Diwali release for his film. But now with the Rajni film coming up much before Diwali he was in for a shock. He then used all his good relations with Rajni (they had met last in Delhi for a news channel’s award show) and called him up requesting him to postpone the release of his Hindi version. Rajni obliged and now the film shall only release in Tamil and Telugu all over the world. The Hindi dubbed version will definately release too but post Diwali."

Rajni’s Sivaji (2007) is being dubbed in Hindi and is all set for a September end release. The makers of Sivaji have even shot a song with Rajni where he will imitate Bollywood legendary yesteryears heroes.

Ranbir and Deepika came on the sets and pretty much kept to themselves.Once the shooting started, they had a couple of scenes together and they did their part. A classy track, which reminds of an erstwhile composition of Vishal-Shekhar, ’Mind Blowing Maahiya’ [CASH], ’Lucky Boy’ indeed is one lucky number that has resulted in an enhanced curiosity for this Siddharth Anand film.

It was only after a gap of four hours that I could slightly begin to hear. My hearing abilities were completely restored only after seven long hours. Imagine meri halat kya hoti thi had I stood the other way round. I dread to even think about it."

Speaking from LA Kareena can’t stop glowing, “Yes Saif is coming here day after tomorrow (Saturday) for two weeks.I don’t know how happy he is about it. But I’m looking forward to seeing him again, ” says Kareena who has been shooting around the clock.“It’s been a mad rush here. And from the 18th I shoot with Sylvester Stallone. Isn’t that exciting? Am I a fan of Stallone? Who isn’t?”

Saif has been telling anyone whom he trusts that not having Kareena in his first production has been killing him.Laughs Kareena, “That’s because Saif is very very open about his feelings. So am I. I know he was thoroughly professional with Deepika. We’ll do many films together in the future. What’s the hurry?”

He and Kareena are supposedly doing their first joint stage performance in Dubai early next month for the Morani bothers.Kareena completely denies this ‘news report.’“It’s true that Saif and I will be in Dubai together next month. After the poor performances of Good Luck and Rituparno Ghosh’s Khela as well, both the new movies are worth looking forward to because two fine directors, Aziz Mirza and Ram Gopal Varma, are at the helm.While Mirza is known for making light-hearted romantic fare, Varma scores when he makes gangster movies dealing with subjects related to the underworld.

As Mirza has returned to direction after five years - his last directorial venture was "Chalte Chalte" - so has Varma visited a gangster movie to direct after six years since "Company" in 2002.Kismat Konnection has generated a lot of expectations also because this is Shahid Kapur’s second release after last year’s hit Jab We Met, in which he was paired with his ex-love Kareena Kapoor.

Will his kismat (luck) stays with him through the release of Kismat Konnection, sans Kareena? For Shahid-Kareena made a fantastic pair in Jab We Met. Will his pairing with Vidya Balan in Kismat Konnection work equally well for the both?

"Comparison is uncalled-for, because both Jab We Met and Kismat Konnection have approached romance in different ways. All three are good artists, but there are roles in which some fit and others do not. Vidya fits in the role of Priya she has done in my film," said Mirza.The other attractions of the movie are the boisterous presence of Juhi Chawla and the voiceover given by Shah Rukh Khan.

Contract, on the other hand, has no stars to boast of other than the director himself. Newcomer Adhvik Mahajan is playing the main lead in it.Since Varma finds himself in his element when he directs gangster films, Contract is expected to be a hard-hitting movie like his previous hits - Satya and Company.

But, according to Varma, Contract is not exactly a gangster movie. It is mainly about the underworld’s links with terrorism told through a terrorist who is well aware of the gangland activities.After the lukewarm response to Sarkar Raj, will non-star-cast Contract succeed at the box office?

"Since it is a theme-based film, it will be a slow-starter, but eventually may do well through word-of-mouth publicity," said a trade analyst.Some distributors of Contract reportedly, had suggested Varma to defer the release till August in order not to avoid clash with Kismat Konnection. But he refused to oblige them, reasoning that the two are diametrically opposite movies.

Yes, this pretty actress is on the move again. She has four big films on hand. She is going to act with hero Darshan in the film Boss. This Kannada film is produced by Ramesh Yadav and directed by Raghu Raj, a successful director and fashion photographer. The first schedule of the film is planned to kick start in Switzerland on August 6. She has another Kannada film to be produced by Balaji Singh and directed by Shri of Orata I Love U fame. She is going to play a very homely character in the film.

Apart from Kannada films, Sanjana has a couple of Telugu films. She has signed a new Telugu film to be produced by Dr. Rajshekar. "I’ve got a chance to prove my acting skills by playing the role of a very innocent homely girl next door character in this film. It is a remake of the Hindi film Khakee but my character in the Telugu version is not there in the original," revealed the actress.

However, the actress is tight-lipped about her other Telugu film. "I would like to keep this huge Telugu project under wrap until it begins and is officially announced. I will let u know in about 10 days time," said the actress.

But Preity did manage to learn the language in a short span of 50 days. “You could call it a crash course,” she says. “But I only mastered the dialogues that I was required to mouth in the film. Heaven On Earth wasn’t a film about faking emotions. I had to deliver my dialogue and feel the emotions,” she adds.

Language wasn’t the only research area for Preity for Heaven On Earth. She read a lot of material and sat through documentaries on domestic violence. She says, “I read a really bulky book called This is What an Abusive Relationship Looks Like and The Woman Who Walked into Doors.

The latter is a novel by Roddy Doyle. I also watched a lot of footage on battered wives including Deepa Mehta’s documentary where the children of battered wives speak on the experience of growing up in violent households.”

Being seriously involved in a subject of such a violent nature took its toll on Preity. She was severely traumatised by the experience of playing a battered wife. In the film, she is repeatedly smacked by her on-screen husband (Vansh Bhardwaj). Many times, Preity ended up raising her fist to retaliate, much to the annoyance and amusement of the director and her co-star. Recalling the experience, Preity says, “It was extremely difficult for me to take on the violence. I’m the kind of girl who would immediately hit back. If you slap me once, I’ll slap you twice.”

Preity was allowed no make-up in the film. “No wigs either,” she says. “Deepa made me wear hair extensions that were naturally woven into my hair to give me the perfect Punjabi look. If I arrived to the sets after a good night’s sleep, they applied black make-up around my eyes to give me a troubled look.”

Released in Toronto, Heaven On Earth will soon be dubbed in Hindi and distributed in India. Preity is currently preparing to leave for a world tour with the Bachchans.

"When I was modelling I was 17. So it’s like a whole era has passed between then and now," said the actor, who was seen in a ’futuristic’ look in her latest release "Love Story 2050".But she adds that she isn’t that experienced as a model."I modelled for only three months ... between the Miss India and Miss World pageants. Priyanka’s character in the film undergoes a tremendous metamorphosis."And I’ve gone through that metamorphosis myself. Like my character, I was a small-town girl finding my way through the modelling world when I came to Mumbai. A lot of it is derived from my own experiences."

The actress says shooting for films and modelling are completely different."My modelling friends complain about how patient they need to be between shots, whereas during modelling all you had to do was just go for it (the ramp)."Priyanka is happy with her role and even happier working with Bhandarkar.

"I do have lots of trust in him. We’ve wanted to work with each other for a long time. I’m glad ’Fashion’ happened. I’ve an author-backed role."The movie has been shot almost entirely in Mumbai. "And that’s a change for me because a lot of my films are shot outside the city. When you’re on an outdoor (shoot), you disconnect almost completely from the rest of the world. I like travelling. When they reached the location to start shooting, Anees Bazmi had not bargained for the vastness or the hugeness of the place. The entire troop of Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif and ten dancers were looking very miniscule in front of all the pyramids. Anees Bazmi strongly felt that if we would add another ten dancers in the background the song would look more aesthetic and beautiful. When he made this request to Vipul Shah, the producer, he immediately agreed and decided to arrange for more dancers.

The only problem was that there are no professional dancers in Egypt that they could hire and the closest location was London, where they could hire people to fly down from. So Vipul Shah understanding the vision of Anees Bazmi immediately contacted the people he knew in London and requested for ten dancers who knew Bollywood dancing and flew them immediately to Cario, Egypt. After the night flight, they all landed at the airport and rushed to the location.

In layman’s language it means that her name cannot henceforth be used for commercial or publicity purposes. For example, if someone runs a beauty salon named Mallika Sherawat Beauty Parlour, or a shop named Mallika Sherawat Undergarments, the person might soon receive a legal notice from the actress’s lawyer for infringement of copyright.

In the words of her lawyer, Mallika today is a brand with a huge commercial value and people often use her name for attracting publicity or commercial gain. Trademarking Mallika’s name would prevent such instances in the future.

So if a producer wants to make a film that is titled something like “Main Mallika Sherawat Banna Chahti Hoon”, he will first have to take permission from the actress and might even have to shell out substantial money to use the copyright.

Kiran is currently busy working for her debut movie as a director, Dobi Ghaat, which is being co-produced by Aamir Khan, and as soon as she completes this she may decide to direct her husband. Both Aamir and Amitabh have shown interest in sharing screen space and Aamir is eager to get the project of the ground. Aamir himself however does not want to direct this film as he would like to fully commit and concentrate on the acting.

According to rumours the script is about India’s first manned mission to the Moon with Aamir playing an astronaut and Amitabh his commanding officer on Earth. When an accident occurs, it is up to Amitabh to show grit and experience and guide Aamir and his team back to safety.

Jennifer Lynch, daughter of four-time Oscar nominee David Lynch, is all set to shoot the film about a subject that has always intrigued the West - the ancient myth concerning the Nag-Naagin (snakes) relationship.Ratan Jain of Venus Records and Tapes is co-producing it with Vikram Singh and Govind Menon.

’Venus is known for its commercial family entertainers. There is lot of work happening between Hollywood and Bollywood and the film with Jennifer starring Mallika is a step towards it, ’ said Jain in a press statement.Commenting upon Mallika, he said: ’It was a wonderful experience working with Mallika in ’Maan Gaye Mughal-E-Azam’. And hence it was natural that we take it further. She is a thorough professional. And I hope that with this film, Venus will be associated with more international films in the near future.’

The film also stars Irrfan Khan. He will play a cop who has been given the task to pin down the Naagin and destroy her powers.Jennifer’s last film ’Surveillance’, starring Bill Pullman and Julia Ormand, was premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May this year.Hollywood’s special effects wizard Robert Kurtzman, who has worked with the likes of Quentine Tarantiono and Robert Rodriquez, has been roped in to create unbelievable graphics for the film.

Madhu Ambat and Hollywood sound effects specialist Patrick Girardi are also a part of the project.The shooting starts at various locations and sets, in the last week of July, in a start to finish schedule. Casting is currently on for the rest of the parts in the film.

In a recent interview, the director revealed, "The entire subject revolves around the events that occur in a time-frame 16 days, so we chose to keep the title as 16 days. Charmi’s screen name is Angel; her role is unique in characterisation and one of the best that Charmi has portrayed in her career till date. The film had several thrilling scenes."

Katrina, who returned to Mumbai on Monday night confirms, "There was a lot of wind and rain in Ooty and the shooting was getting disrupted." Though Katrina feels birthdays are for children to celebrate she’s happy to be in Mumbai and not Ooty.

"I am not sure if I will have a birthday party like last year as I don’t like parties. Ideally, I’d like to go off for a couple of days to somewhere like Dubai as that’s one of my favourite holiday destinations." Quiz her about Sallu’s presence on her birthday and Katrina says that she doesn’t like to talk on her personal life. "That’s why I can never blog (like Sallu) as I don’t like sharing my personal thoughts. My blogs would be empty."

Though boyfriend Sallu will be there to hold Kat’s hand on her birthday, her sisters and mom might not be there. "Mom was with me at the London Zee awards and at IIFA. I was lucky to have her there as I was very unwell and on heavy medication. I had a viral and was burning up from inside but seeing mom’s smile and her pride made it all worthwhile."

Katrina is planning to buy her "dream home" soon. "Being a Cancerean I love to be near water and I had always wanted to buy sea facing property. Unfortunately, my Bandra house is not sea-facing but I hope I will get my dream flat soon."

In spite of her hectic schedule Katrina finds time to watch Salman’s TV show on Sony, 10 Ka Dum, from time to time. "It’s a satisfying show, fun and cool. In fact, I knew of the American show as one of my sisters, Melissa, who is intellectual and studious, often plays that version in our hotel room."

Shilpa received the award along with Formula One racing driver Lewis Hamilton. "It’s given to people from different parts of the world who’ve made a difference to global cultural dynamics. It felt disorienting. Because I barely touched down in London couldn’t even gather my breath and I was out of London back in Goa to shoot. I didn’t even get the chance to catch any sleep. I came straight to shoot," says Shilpa.

And all this with a severe neck pain brought on by her new avatar as a violinist in The Man. "It’s a common malady in violin prayers. With your neck and shoulder pressed forward to hold the violin the pain is a kind of given. However, I never thought it’d be so bad," adds the actress.

Shilpa is now serious about pursuing her new violin vocation. She will continue to play the instrument even after the film’s shooting is done. Shilpa says she feels a sense of elation when she represents India at global events in England. "I had a woman coming up to me to say she now feels proud to be an Indian in Britain after the way I conducted myself at Big Brother."

It appears that Anu did not sign an official contract with the film’s producers (Suniel Shetty, Shabbir Boxwalla, and Ekta Kapoor) and therefore has no leg to stand on. Says a source, “Anu was shocked. He thought that he was supposed to do all the six songs in the film. He tried arguing with the producers and the director, but they refused to relent.”

Talking to reporters about this, Anu says, “I assumed that I would be the sole music director for the film and was really surprised when a couple of other guys were roped in. Apoorva is a friend; I have worked with him in Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost and didn’t expect this from him. From now on, I will not do a film without signing an exclusive contract.”

But in public Ash exercises restraint so that people do not stare at her. At home she gives way to her weakness.The only time Ash had to diet was to prepare for the role in Dhoom 2 in which she had to cut her weight to a miniscule 54 kilos.

“It was a painful experience. I had to be 54 kgs and so for a month I was on a strict diet. That was the most painful period for me. And to add to my misery, I had to work out” Ash remembered.At present Ash said she has a good metabolic rate and does not need to work out but she hits the gym a couple of times a week to keep fit.

Reminiscing about her movies she says she looks well fed in most movies except ‘Dhoom 2’ in which she looks well toned. But ‘Dhoom 2’ brings back unpleasant memories of her dieting.Ash revealed that during the shooting of Sarkar Raj , the Bachchan family used to carry home cooked food.

But Ash said, “ I love all cuisines. And any time is a good chow time.”

So enthused is Saif about the project that he has reportedly offered to even produce it.

He says only an actor like Saif - with a natural blend of boyish charm and regality - can do justice to the role.Mishra is presently working on his Aur Devdas , a contemporary, politicized adaptation of ‘Devdas’. "I have to play the violin in The Man and to make it look real, I am taking lessons. Trust me, it is very difficult to play the violin. I am having a tough time. My instructor tells me that it is the most difficult instrument to play and he is quite right," said Shilpa in a press statement.

Although Shilpa is finding her lessons tough, her instructor Sandeep, who is based in Goa, says he is impressed with her sincerity."Every evening after pack up, Shilpa takes two hour lessons to play the violin. She is shaping up to be a very dedicated student," he stated.In The Man, Shilpa Shetty is portraying a girl who rises to instant global stardom - very similar to her real life experience.

"Her character has an interesting side to it - she is a violin expert just like pop sensation Vanessa Mae. Her violin playing portions in the film have been styled just like a Vanessa Mae video. Since Shilpa wanted to lend authenticity to her character, she decided to learn to play the violin," a source close to the actress stated.

Namitha is the central character in Jagan Mohini, a remake of a yesteryear Tamil-Telugu blockbuster with the same name, under NK Viswanathan’s direction. I took up Jaane Tu because I am very close to Nuzhat. We had designed the costumes in Josh, directed by Mansoor Khan. In fact, I started my career with Mansoor in Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander. So when he offered Jaane Tu to me, I said yes.

The briefing I got for the movie from (director) Abbas Tyrewala and Mansoor was that this film is about young college kids. Abbas told me that he did not want the colour blue on any of the costumes. But I convinced him that this was impossible as college-going kids wear a lot of blue denims.

Kamal has already signed a contract with the production house to make the film on first copy basis with the budget of Rs.80 crores. Now the company is confused whether the actor would include the film launch cost in the budget or charged separately. Sources say that the actor has already received the cheque for Rs.5 crores as advance last week and the balance amount would be disbursed by the company stage by stage after the launch.
